A bit off topic but:
What is an xml file? Is there some freeware to view and print them?
The add-on to Firefox that I found, a very good database manager, has no
print facilities.
Thanks. |

First the 'central' filext place:
http://filext.com/file-extension/xml Extensible Markup Language File
Alternatively, our favorite wiki...
.... which has a huge discussion including history and such...
7 History
7.1 Sources
7.2 Versions
7.3 Patent claims
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xml
.... here's a cute section there...
8 Critique of XML
8.1 Advantages of XML
8.2 Disadvantages of XML
.... I kinda like that one.

It's a text file. Open it with Notepad or similar text editor.

You can view the file with Notepad or IE. I believe it can be used for
a variety of purposes, one such use is as a .INI file. The newsreader
I use allows all settings to be stored in a .XML file instead of the
Registry hence making the application totally portable.
This feat escaped my abilities until just recently and I have finally
learned how to move Xananews over to a USB disk. There is only a
slight delay in read/write access time to the message database as
compared to hard disk but I do only keep up to a week of articles when
installed as portable.

"The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a general-purpose specification |
for creating custom markup languages.[1] It is classified as an extensible
language because it allows its users to define their own elements. Its
primary purpose is to facilitate the sharing of structured data across
different information systems, particularly via the Internet,[2] and it is
used both to encode documents and to serialize data. In the latter
context, it is comparable with other text-based serialization languages
such as JSON and YAML." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XML
Site maps are xml files which the likes of Google use to crawl websites
and you provide instructions to the bots via your Sitemap.xml .... You can
create them in a text editor.
XML is recommended by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). It is a
fee-free open standard. The recommendation specifies both the lexical
grammar and the requirements for parsing.
