I prefer Crossloop because it's extremely easy for both parties to use,
and has file transfer capability.

You are looking for remote support software for use by whom? You alone
for personal use? Or for your company?

Teamviewer is free for personal use but then you often don't need to
remotely support yourself unless you have multiple hosts to manage at
home.

http://www.teamviewer.com/

I trialed it very shortly but it's been too long for me to remember much
about it. TightVNC works just fine for me to remote to my other hosts,
but then I'm not helping someone else and instead just managing the host
itself, but then if there were another user at the other end that I was
helping then it is highly unlikely it would be under a personal-use only
scenario.

So are you looking for remote support software that your *company* can
use to support its employees or customers?

Try Mikogo Lou, you can get both of them on at the same time and they
don't have to install anything, just go to the Mikogo website and click on
"Join a Meeting" then enter the meeting ID which you supply them. You can
also talk with them using the FF Skype addon, LoudTalks, or the telephone.
I do it all the time.

Your target subjects never have to install any program, just run a file to

ram from their site or get that file and save it on your computer...and
you don't have to ever go back to the site.

Chapter 3 - Download the Software

Something has to run on the host in order to capture and transmit its
screen. The software is the big yellow-colored button in the middle of
their home page.

When they click on "join meeting" it loads a file in Ram on their
computer. You can also download this function and never have to go to the
site to join a meeting if you like.

I created an account (using an e-mail alias) although that might've been
superfluous since I didn't get prompted to login when I click the Join
Meeting link. When I click on the "Join Meeting" link (upper right-hand
corner) on their web page, I get prompted regarding a download of
Connect.exe, so a program is still being downloaded and executed loaded.
I didn't bother downloading the program and then running to see what it
did in my production environment.

So I started up VMWare Server, loaded the WinXP virtual machine, and
clicked on the Join Meeting to download the Connect.exe file and run
that executable. I used InstallWatch to take a snapshot of the VM
before running Connect.exe and after running it. Connect.exe is from
BeamYourScreen GmbH. So you are installing a copy (by a file
download/copy rather than using, say, MSI) and executing it locally to
capture the screen. Even if you select Run (instead of Save) when
prompted to retrieve Connect.exe, a local copy of the file must first be
downloaded before it can be executed.

Like I said, you need to run something locally to capture the screen.
There is no "direct to RAM" loading through a web browser. Instead you
run a downloaded program that loads an executable image into RAM (since
no program runs that is not in RAM). Looking at what InstallWatch
recorded, there wasn't any added files or registry entries from running
the Connect.exe screen capture program, so it is a clean install (just
the file download) and execution doesn't look to add more to the host.

Actually it looks like there is a much more full installation. While
the signees can get by with just downloading the Connect.exe and
executing that program locally to capture their screen, they need to
enter a Meeting ID. You don't generate that ID using the Join Meeting
link via the Connect.exe program. The one that is creating and
coordinating the meeting must download and install Mikogo_setup.exe. I
saw no web-only interface to create and manage a meeting. You have to
do that with the installed program. I start another snapshot in
InstallWatch and downloaded and installed the Mikogo_setup.exe program
(only 1MB in size). It just loads an executable image into RAM under
the process name Mikogo.exe with no additionally created files or
registry entries. It was at this point when I realized why I had to
register using my e-mail address since I have to use a login to use
their server program to create a meeting. So the install of the server
or manager is the same as for the client: both have you download an
executable file and execute it locally.

Setup is easy for the subscribers to the meeting. They download and
execute Connect.exe to provide the screen capture. The meeting
coordinator must install the server program to create a meeting.

There is nothing mentioned of SSL but then Mikogo is going to be in the
middle, anyway. Don't do anything you consider sensitive. Unless I
actually went through a server-client connection and used a packet
sniffer to see to where the packets were sent, I can't tell to where
your hosts will connect while using their utilities. I suspect all your
traffic goes through Mikogo's host. For personal use, and as long as
you don't display any files with credit card numbers on the screen, and
since both parties must already been logged into their account under
Windows (so no Windows login credentials should be displayed in the
screen captures, but don't do any other logins, like to your bank
account in a web browser while the screen is being captured and
transmitted in the clear through a 3rd party), then you're probably safe
from anyone at Mikogo that can capture the screen transmissions.
