I ditched neither, but am seriously thinking of ditching the ATROCIOUS UAC.
But too cowardly and to be honest unaware of whether i should or not.

M$ recommends you *don't* turn UAC off, but they tell you how to do it
(as well as modify it on some versions of Vista.) Several pages of
links from M$ own internal search engine:
http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&q=disable+uac
You can find what others say on Google with just searching "disable
UAC" with or without the quotes.
Another option is a tiny (84.3kb) freeware standalone .exe called
TweakUAC available here:
http://www.tweak-uac.com/
A word of caution: Don't be too quick to just blindly click the big
downoad buttons. The're for the vendors other $ware products. You
have to look for the TEXT link in the second line of the main text on
the download page that says "Download TweakUAC."
You might want to peruse the information on the right hand side links
about what UAC does and doesn't do for you while you're visiting that
site. It's written in language that's easy for most people to
understand.
Bottom line, if you can tolerate UAC, leave it alone. I can't
tolerate it, so it's gone.

I HATE the irritating thing.
I have tried TweakUAC and found that Vista keeps up the irritating "You have
disabled UAC" drone repeatedly. |

I'm running Vista as a standard user (meaning I have to enter my admin
password on UAC pop-up).
It never bugs me unless I install something new or make system
configuration changes.

I bet it's your programs that aren't behaving properly. Maybe you
should turn your irritation towards the programmers instead of towards
UAC. |
