What good is scanning email if you already have it?
AntiVir, doesn't have an incoming/outgoing email scanner, and it
slowed my computer to a crawl.

Ron, if you scan email...you have it. Many recommendations indicate
scanning email functions are not necessary.

I don't think there is a "best AV programme". I think you need to try
and test as many as you can and go with the one that plays the nicest
with the other things on your system. There are just way too many
variables.
Dare I mention the word "subjective"? ;-)

I agree and AVAST or AntiVir are the best choices IMO. AVG is cute and
popular but outclassed by both.

IMO AVG is crapware, though it is third in the top three...may lose/lower
that position soon.

I use AVG 8 on my machine and Avast on my wife's.
Antivir started getting stinky about the splash screens whenever I updated.
But I guess I think of AVG and Avast as Chevy verses Ford, with AntiVir for
the Dodge fanatics.  Which one is best, depends on what you think best
is. |

FWIU, AVG does a thing with the internet that really slows surfing down.
It can be disabled somehow though, I heard.
I, for one, eschew AV programs because I have to be a performance freak
since my computer is getting old.

I am a long time user of AVG - I even persuaded my company to buy
commercial licenses for all our work PC's. However, with version 8
Grisoft seem to have lost the plot. It has become too unwieldy and
bloated IMHO. |
